Notes

Abstract: This thesis is a study of the Antigone plays as written by Sophocles, Jean Anouilh, and Luis Rafael Sanchez. The two latter plays are reworkings of the former, and are of specific interest due to the political atmosphere in which they were written. Issues of particular study within the thesis are the ways in which these reworkings depart from the original, how these transformations relate to the time and culture of the plays' authors, and whether specific political commentary is to be found within them.
