PAGE 1 "A happy myth since 1964" INCOMING CLASS ARRESTED! UPI (Sarasota)In a surprise move by Sarasota police officers and the local airport authority, over 100 new stu dents at the University of South Florida Sarasota campus (New College) were arrested and detained in the city jail for several hours. "We have a very touchy situation here," explained Robert Barylski, dean of students. "There has been a pro tracted dispute over campus/airport property, and things have gotten a little out of hand." The arrests came after new students unwittingly crossed over onto airport property, where Sarasota enforcement agents and state vehicles waited to transport them to the city jail. Many students were met by city police as the disembarked their flights, at which point they were informed of New College of U.S. F. "An Ivy League education for the price of a good stereo" their violation and hauled off to the county lock-up. Other students were arrested when they trespassed on one of the various pockets of airport land. "We have legal control over many sections of the school," said an airport spokesperson, "and we will not tolorate the students' blatant disreguard for our authority." The airport land includes a NEW COLLEGE MUG BOOK 1988-1989 a 3-foot square section near the s t udent dorms, and a single urinal in the student center bathroom. "Maybe the kids'll learn something from this, one U.S .F. campus police officer declared. "Th.ey don't seem to care 'bout nothin but themselves. I've seen some crazy things here, let me tell you--open co habitation of two males of the same sex In one room! Playin' loud music dancin' naked, I don t know what else! These kids have got to be protected from themselves!"
