PAGE 1 1 135 -3/8/68 Ref.:Fur.an c. Arthur FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SARASOTA--Fla.--Laurence L. Alexander. son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex L. Alexander of 2602 Dorene Drive. Plant City. was one of five Nev College students to be eelected as designate by the Woodrow Wilaon National 'ellowabip Foundation. Selection as a designate means that he is judged as among the best future teacher prospects among students in North American colleges and universities. The Foundation selected 1.124 students at 309 colleges and universities in the u.s. and Canada from among more than 11.000 nominees. AleX.nder1 who is taking the option to graduate with a bachelor of arts degree after three year of study at New College. is majoring in English Literature. He plans to continue his studies at graduate schoil in order to prepare for a career in teaching. Alexander's selection along with the four others from New College. helped that institution to lead all other private colleges f.n Alabama. Florida, Georgia and South Carolina in numbers of \o7oodrow Wilaun designates. The selection by the Foundation means that Alexanders' naae will be forwarded to the deans of all araduate schools with a notation that he is "worthy of financial support in graduate school." Alexander will be a member of the second graduating class at New College. In the first class. five students also were chosen by the Woodrow Wilson Foundation. 30 |
