PAGE 1 1 -135 -3/6/68 Ref: Furman c. Atthur FOR IMMEDIA'fE RELEASE SARASOTA,Fla.--Deane L. Root, son of Mr. & Mrs. F. K. Root of 1903 Seven Pines Street, Lwxington, Ky., was one of five New College atudents to be selected as designates by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. Selection as a de ignate means that he ia judged as among the best future teacher prospects among students in North American colleges and universities. The Foundation selected 1,124 students at 309 colleges and universities in the u.s. and Canada from among core than 11,000 nominees. Root, who is taking the option to graduate with a bachelor of arts degree after three years of study at New College, is ajoring in musicology. He plans to continue his studies at graduate school in preparation for a career in teaching. Root's selection,' along with the four others from New College, helped that institution to lead all other private colleges in Alabama, Florida, Georp,ia and South Carolina in nuabers of Woodrow Wilson designates. '!he selection by the Foundation means that Root's name will be forwarded to the deans of all graduate schools with a notation that he is "worthy of financial support in graduate school."
