Arthur SPECIAL TO: DAN DIE!LER UNIVERSITY OF SOU'l'H FLORIDA, TAMPA Faced with a severe problem of community relations (a natural result of a liberal college openinR in a conservative community) New Collegebas opened several offensives: Student Speakers Bureau: Organization of a group of students to present various to clubs and or,anization. They speak on a variety of topics (preferably not New College), give dramatic readings or present panel discussions or debates. While organized previously, this has been aggresively pushed with good results lately. Advisory Committee: Using a group of peiple who have pledged support of New College BR a base, we have formed an advis ory to help the colleee'determine what it can do for the community. We hope to enlist the advice of many of the community and then to serve them with our resources in the beat way they and we can determine. Student Seminars: One New College student. concerned with student non-participation in community life, has organized a aeries of discussion seminars, led by faculty-picked students, and open to the public. Initial offerings, beginnin February 11 for five weeks, will be in literature, philosophy, and religion. Weekly ProR!amst To let the public know what is happening at New College, and partic*larly to give advance notice of events, the college issues w eekly column presently used by the Herald Tribune in Sarasota. A student aide in public relations tapes a weekly show for use over a local station on topics usually relating to campus events. |
