Arthur FOR RELEASE: SUNDAY, JANUARY 7 or after SARASOTA--Concert pianist Leonid Hambro will perform in a special public concert with the New College String Quartet on the New College campus Hednesday, January 17 at 8:15 p.m. Hambro, 'l-7ho has been pianist for the Ne't York Philharmonic for nearly 20 years in addition to concert tours, television and film work, will perform with the resident string quartet in Hamilton Center. Members of the quartet, who will be making their second public appearance in this area since their formation last spring are violinists Paul Holfe and Anita Brooker, violist Hilliam Magers and cellist Christopher von Baeyer. Performing a program of chamber music, the quartet and Hambro will play compositions by Handel, Mozart, Stravinsky and Dvorak. Pianist Hambro, in making his first appearance with the quartet, signals an association that will be renewed his appearance here in June during the New College Summer Music Festival as both performer and faculty member. more PAGE 2 NFNEH COLLEGE Page 2 A graduate of the Juilliard Graduate School of Music, Hambro has made extensive concert tours, is a member of the faculty of the Juilliard Institute of Music Art, has recorded for both Columbia and Victor, and has been associated with the fine music station of New York, HQXR, many years. Hambro also is knm-m to many Axr-.E.ricans for his appearances in concerts and on television in association with pianist-comedian Victor Borge. for Two days after the public concert, Hambro and the quartet members will perform a second program for members of the New Collep;e community. Three of the members of the string quartet--Holfe, Magers, and von Baeyer--are members of the College faculty. Urs. Brooker performs with several Florida symphony orchestras and chamber music groups. During the academic year of the college, the quartet is in residence on the campus and during the summer they perform as a group for the Silvermine Guild of Artists in Connecticut. Tickets for the January 17 program are available at the Sports Shop or the Allied Arts Council ticket office at the Civic Center or by calling New Collep,e, 355-7131, Extension 313.
