PAGE 1 RELEASE NEw CoLLEGE SARASOTA, FLORIDA 33578 1 116 -2/16/68 813/ 355-7131 Ref.: Furman C. Arthur FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SARASOTA--A team of three Nelv College students ranked 30th among 223 teams representing colleges and universities in the United States and Canada in recent mathematics competition. Harry Felder III, Phoenix, Ariz., Allan Jaworski, Passaic, N.J., and Stuart KluRffian, Saint Louis Park, Minn. represented New College in the 28th annual Hilliam Lmvell Putnam Mathematical Competition. Teams of three students are chosen to represent each institution and similar tests are given to all. Teams with the highest combined scores are adjudged winners. Last year a Nelv College team ranked 12lst and jumped 90 places in the competition this year. So difficult is the test given the students that although there are 67 possible points in the examination, 402 students scored zero, and some 60 per cent had scores of less than 10. Only four institutions in Florida had students in the top one-third of those tested. New had three, and with one each were University of Florida, Florida Presbyterian, and Rollins College. more PAGE 2 NElv COLLEGE Page 2 Three other New College students also took the examination as individuals rather than as members of a team.
