NEW COLLEGE File copy NEWS RELEASE May 23, 1966 NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE A violist has been added as the ;eleventh faculty member for the New College Summer Music Festival which will be held on campus Jupe 19 to July 3. David P. Dawson, a member of the faculty of the Indiana University School of Music for 18 years and a performer with a number of symphonies and chamber groups, will teach viola along with Walter Trampler, a member of the 1965 festival faculty who is returning for his second year. Dawson was for five years principal violist with the Symphony Orchestra and he has also been a member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the NBC Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as a member of the Gordon, Coolidge and the NBC Quartets and has toured all major U. s. cities and performed with these groups at festivals in New Zealand, Canada, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Amman. Professor Dawson also has been a soloist with symphony orchestras in Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Ind., Memphis, Tenn., Des Moines, Iowa, and has performed in recitals in all parts of the country. For eighteen summers he has been on the faculty of the Music Mountain festival in Connecticut. -30-
