FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C. AATHUR IN F O RMAT/ON May s. 1966 Earl A. Helgeson Jr., associate director of admissions at New College, today was named assistant to the president, a new position ere-ated at the college. Trained as a lawyer, Helge s on will h ave responsibility for numer ous college relationships with graduate schools, with government and accrediting agencies, and with other colleg e and university staffs. One of his first tasks '.:ill be that of setting up a service to as-sist New College students in learning about graduate school opportunities and working with them in making applications. First New College students will be graduated in July 1967. Helgeson has been a member of the admissions staff at New College since late 1963 A graduate of the Yale Law School, he was admitted to the bar in Wisconsin, practiced briefly and then joined the admissions staff at MacMurray College in Illinois. He is a native of Fargo, N.D., where his father has been a college professor for more than 25 years. He makes his home with his wife and three children in Sarasota. -30-
