NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR INFORMATION FOR RELEASE: SUNDAY, MARCH 6, 1966 A newly-formed speakers bureau of New College students makes its first appearance next Hednesday, Harch 9th, when its members present a dis-cussion before members of the Phi Beta Kappa Society at 8 p.m. in College Hall. Seven students will take aprt in the discussion which will be on the subject of, "tfuat Is a New College Experience?" Organized by Dr. Patricia Drabik, assistant professor of speech at New College, the speakers group nmv is offering programs to anslver re-quests of community organizations, schools, or interested groups. Dr. Drabik said that the students wish to extend their experience beyond the classroom, and that they also believe this is an excellent way for them to learn more of the community in which the college is located. It is also, she said, an opportunity for the community to become acquainted with the New College student, his interests, his talents,and his work. Taking part in the initial program, which was arranged by Edwin Gleason, Phi Beta Kappa program chairman, are: Charles Raeburn, second year political science major from tJilmington, Del., the moderator; Ruthanne Stange, first year student of Sarasota; Vicki Pearthree, first year psychology major from Haukesha, tUs.; Ann Hart, first year history from Hash., D.C.; Allan Jaworski, first year physics and math major from Passaic, N.J.; Dan Haggarty, first year student interested in teaching, from Chippewa Falls, Wis.; and David Allen, first year philosophy major from Shreveport, La. -more-


NEH COLLEGE SPEAKERS BUREAU Page 2 The students, at the request of community organizations, will appear singly or in groups to discuss individual topics which they have prepared, or to talk abriut their experiences at New College. Student topics range from recent experiences to broad topics of national interest, one student having served as an American Field Service worker. Information may be obtained, or arrangements made .. for a speakers bureau program through Furman c. Arthur, director of Public Relations at New College. -30-
