NEW COLLEGE NEWS RELEASE NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR INFORMATION FOR H1HEDIATE RELEASE Dr. George W. Petrie, an educational affairs consultant with International Business Machines, has been named visiting professor of mathematics at New College for the academic year which opens September twelfth. The new member of the faculty is the second mathematician to serve at NeH College under a special arrangement with IBH. Dr. Lewis M. Fulton Jr. a visiting professor during the past year. Dr. tvas a'ivarded his undergraduate degree at Carnegie Institute of Technology, received: his master's degree there and earned his doctorate at Lehigh University. For 21 years he was a member of the faculty at the South Dakota School of Mines and also held special positions with two major industrial firms. He also served on the faculty of Lehigh, teaching mathematics and astronomy for two years. Since 1950 Dr. Petrie has been a consultant for IBM and has traveled in a number of countries abroad for the firm in connection with his educational duties. A naval officer during tvorld t,Jar II, Dr. Petrie has continued his association as a commander of the Navy Reserve. He has purchased a home here in which he will reside teaching. -30-
