Arthur, Director Public Relations PAGE 2 COLLEGE NEWS RELEASE NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR INFORMATION FOR H1MEDIATE RELEASE November 16, 1965 Sculptor Vernon Voelz of Sarasota will talk to students of College Friday night at College Hall as a part of the student forum series. Appearance of Voelz on campus was arranged by Herbert C. tutor in art at New College, who will present to the student body during the year a series of artists in various media. The Friday forum series was begun last year to bring to campus people in various fields to talk to students, to present entertainment, or to engage in informal discussions. Voelz, & graduate of the Chicago Art Institute, has been working in Sarasota since 1954 with one year out for a visit to Rio de Janeiro where he taught jewelry making. His work won first prize in the 1958 All Florida Sculpture Show, several prizes in this area, and last year was awarded the $500 Florida State Fair Award. New College students, in addition to studying fine art as a part of their humanities program, also have available to them a Saturday morning studio class under the direction of Stoddard or the opportunity to study at the New College Fine Arts Institute, if qualified. -30- |
