NEW COLLEGE _.NEWS RELEASE NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C. ARTHUR INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Washington -H. I..Jerner Prange, chairman of the department of German and associate professor of German at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan was named by the American Council of Education to spend the 1965-66 academic year at New College as an administrative intern. Dr. Prange, is one of the first 25 participants in a new program developed by the ACE to train college administrators. As a Fellow in Academic Administra-tion, he will spend the year on the staff of Dr. George F. Baughman, president of the college. Dr. Prange, who has been a member of the Aquinas College faculty since 1954, was nominated for participation in the program by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Arthur F. Bukowski, president of Aquinas. Dr. Prange, a native of Germany, holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Bonn. He also has been the director of a television language laboratory for high schools and colleges in Michigan and also a liaison for the Peace Corps. Page 2 Prange dealing with higher education, one at the University of Michigan September 7-17 before the start of the academic year and one in Hashington, D. C. in May, 1966 at the end of the year. While at the 11host" institutions, the will continue to have periodic contact with the program staff of the American Council on Education to ensure that the internship year provides them with a broad and varied administrative and educational experience. Each Fellow will receive a stipend equal to the appointee's current salary, plus travel and moving allowances. The Academic Administration Internship Program is supported by a five-year $4,750,000 grant from the Ford Foundation. For the 1966-67 academic year, 50 Fellows will be selected and 75 will be chosen in each of the three succeeding years. Candidates for the 1965-66 program were selected after being interviewed by teams of three college presidents and three Council executive officers at interview centers in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Chicago, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Washington, D. C. The Fellows chosen for 1965-66 range in age from 31 to 44, represent 17 different academic disciplines, and come from 19 different public and six private institutions. In rank, they range from assistant professor to vice-president. All but four have earned the doctor's degree. The Academic Administration Internship Program is under the direction of Lanier Cox, on leave from the Univeristy of Texas System where he vlas vice chancellor. Corson, professor of public and international affairs at Princeton University; John Millett, director and chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents and also chairman of the Commission on Administrative Affairs of the American Council on Education; and Ellis L. Phillips, Jr. president of the Ellis L. Phillips Foundation. #
