All Boston Dailies NEWS RELEASE New York TIMES & TRIBUNE AP & UPI ACPRA Newsletter John Price Jones Nelf7sletter Middlebury Alumni Office Local Dailies and Radio Stations NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR -INFORMATION FOl IMMEDIATE August 23, 1965 Sarasota, Fla. --Paul D. Davis, development officer at Brown University, today was named Director of Resources and Planning of New College. The appointment of Davis, effective October 1, was made by New College president-elect Jorn van G. Elmendorf. For the past six years Davis has been development officer at Brown and before that worked in the public relations department of the university. He had been a writer for the Providence Journal-Bulletin before joining the university. At Brown he had major responsibility for development, which included securing funds and other resources for the university. The new New College resources and planning officer was born in Torring-ton, Conn., graduated from Middlebury College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and earned his master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. After graduation, he won a Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship which he spent in Italy, France, and Switzerland. Davis is an elected member of the Cranston, R.I. School Committee and has been both moderator and deacon of the Woodridge Congregational Church in Cranston. -more-


Married the of two junior high school age children, Davis served with the United Stctes Army from 1943 to 1947. New College, a co-educational college of the liberal arts and sciences, was founded in 1960 end accepted its first class of students in September 1964. Dr. Elmendorf its second president on September first. -30-
