For Release: NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C. ARTHUR INFORMATION An Avon Park student at New College has been named the recipient of a scholarship established by the Association of Former Teachers of Sarasota in 1962. Carol Ann Childress, a graduate of Avon Park High School and a member of the charter class at New College, has been chosen for the scholarship honor created from the first scholarship fund established at New College. The association, made up of 30 retired teachers from 14-s tates 1 set up the fund three years ago and they have added to it periodically to aid a student at New College. Carol, the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Aden D. Childress of Avon Park, in high school was a member of the National Honor Society, presi-dent of the Future Homemakers of America chapter, student director of the junior and senior class plays 1 oryanist of the Firs t Baptist Church, winner of the Daughters of American Revolution Good Citizenship Award, a member of Girls State and winner of a school mathematics award. A representative of the association visited on campus with Carol last week. Carol is expected to attend a future meeting of the associa-tion to be introduced to all members of the group. # # #
