Notes
- Abstract:
- In this thesis I examine the social and structural factors that influence second generation Latinos in the formation of their ethnic identities. I also look at the extent to which the experiences of contemporary second generation immigrants correspond with what previous scholars have written on the subject. By conducting interviews with sixteen second generation Latinos about their ethnic identity, I was able to identify some of the factors that they felt were significant in shaping their sense of cultural connection. While eight factors were identified as significant, I found that in order to understand why each factor is more or less significant to different people, one has to look at the ways in which the factors work together in each case.
