Abstract:
Mundane attributes usually go hand in hand with a sense of underwhelming calm, tangled in the routine and forgettable. This exploration focuses on several different household items as sculptural materials and utilizes their accessibility, versatility and connection back to regular life to upset the boundary between the regular and the fantastical. I am drawn to these materials for their ability to blur the clear distinction that we accept in our busy lives between the mundane and the fantastical. Investigating these items undoubtedly challenges the expected distance between everyday tools and mysterious or alien patterns by reestablishing the role of the utility based object. This process directly responds to each individual objects’ qualities, and results in allusions to natural forms.
