Notes

Abstract: This study explores the relationships between likelihood of fashion conformity, body image, and selfesteem. A negative correlation was found between fashion conformity and self-esteem, which is congruent with past research. There also was a negative correlation between fashion conformity and self-esteem for females when correlations for males and females were performed separately, supporting the assertion that women may assign more importance to fashion conformity in order to enhance their self-esteem. A negative correlation between self-esteem and body image also was found, however this relationship is not congruent with past research. A significant difference between genders was found for body image scores. No other significant results were found. Finally, possible methodological problems and directions for future research are discussed.
