Abstract: Carbon nanotubes display unique mechanical, thermal, and electronic characteristics. Much work has been done to study them and develop applications for them in a wide range of fields. My thesis focuses on doublewalled carbon nanotubes that have been filled with crystalline tellurium. The goal of my research was to find a nondestructive method for distinguishing between Te filled and empty nanotubes. Resonant Raman analysis was used to study both empty and Te filled nanotubes. Numerical curve fitting was used to study the spectra collected. Changes in the temperature related rate of downshift of the G band components was investigated for the pristine and the Te filled nanotube samples. The changed rate of downshift may be an indicator of weakened C-C bonds in the filled nanotubes.
