Abstract: This study investigated the effects of exposure to anti-smoking messages on tobacco-related variables, along with the influence of smoking status on these variables. College students were shown either anti-smoking commercials or non-tobacco related commercials. A short questionnaire was then used to assess attitudes and perceptions related to tobacco and tobacco-control policies. Associations between these variables were also explored. Results indicated that anti-smoking commercials positively influenced respondents attitudes toward tobacco and smokers attitudes toward tobacco-control policies. Data also revealed that attitudes toward tobacco-control policies were associated with perceived smoking prevalence rates and attitudes toward tobacco.
