Notes

Abstract: This document is a discussion and explication of my thesis project, a 17 minute long, non-objective digital animation entitled Tiga Negri Tambal (which translates from the Indonesian as Three Countries Patchwork). The film is an attempt to present visual music in the compositional form of a patchwork, and accordingly the main influences are the aesthetic elements of pattern design (particularly Indonesian batik) and music. The materials used in the process include the programs Max/Jitter and AUVI, which provided a very flexible environment that allowed me to animate by taking an original video signal and applying various effects to it. Final Cut Express provided the video editing capabilities needed to assemble the dozens of animated clips that have been created. This thesis project was a collaboration between myself and New College alumni James Powell and Josh Sonstroem, who composed and assembled the music.
