Notes

Abstract: maoi examines the panic that is produced from the vast amounts of information we are exposed to in our daily lives. Through the use of audio, video and architectural elements, I attempted to create a space in which the viewer would be exposed to juxtapositions of massive amounts of information. The architectural setting was specifically designed to hold not only the viewer, but to seamlessly integrate all equipment necessary for the performance (computers, speakers, amplifiers, monitor and projector) into its structure. The second element of the project, maoi.doc, is intended to serve as documentation for the visual work. I have provided all the building blocks of maoi, (software, buffer material, pictures of the piece and movies of both the processed video in the piece and video documentation of the piece) without recreating the performance itself. Through the combination of performance and documentation, I have provided a detailed view of not only the product, but of the process. By uncovering the often hidden aspect of process, my goal was to expose both the intentions of the piece and my personal connection with the concept surrounding maoi.
