NEWS RELEASE NEW COLLEGE SARASOTA, FLORIDA 33578 1 143 -3/15/68 813 / 355-7131 Ref.: Furman C. Arthur FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SARASOTA--Or. Jack D. Rains, chairman of the Division of Social Sciences, has been named dean of students at New College begin ning with the third term, March 25. He succeeds Dr. George W. Petrie III, who resumes teaching mathematics. Dr. Rains said that he expects to bring the offices of the dean of students and his own division chairmanship closer together to provide increased counseling service for students. The new dean of students came to New College last fall from Harvard University where he held a National Science Foundation Faculty fellowship in the Department of Social Relations. Previously, Dr. Rains had taught at Lake Forest College, the University of Arizona and Emerson College. Dr. Rains earned his bachelors degree from Texas Western College and his doctorate from the University of Arizona. 30
