NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C. ARTHUR INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 1 34 -10/26/67 SARASOTA--New College debaters have received their first intercollegiate trophy, representing a victory in competition last week at the Florida Debate-Discussion Tournament. The five New College debaters captured top honors in a field of 8 Florida colleges and universities speaking on the national debate topic: "Resolved that the United States should guarantee a minimum annual cash income to all citizens." In addition to the team trophy, first year student Nick Munger has received a trophy for being judged best individual speaker in the tournament. Other team members are first year student Rose Stetler, Lancaster, Pa., second year student Charles Veckert, St. Clair Shores, Mich., and third year students Kenji Oda, Chicago, Ill. and Dan Haggarty, Chippewa Falls, Wis. The team is coached by New College economics tutor D. Marshall Barry. Other institutions participating in the meet were University of South Florida, University of Florida, St. Johns River Junior College, St. Petersburg Junior College, Florida Southern University, Stetson University, and Edison Junior College. 30
