Allthur FOR RELEASEs Sunday, Nov. 12, or after SARASOTA-New College students who have been waiting for Godot will get what they've been waiting for this weekend. Godot is the name--thou h it is not yet final--of a coffee house for students about to open on the New College campus. The coffee house will be housed in The Barn, a building once used for that purpose on the old Charles Ringling Estate and since turned into a student center and office building. The coffee house will be open Wednesday throu h Sunday evenings and vill provide a place for students to talk, be entertained by members of the outside community, or perform themselves. The coffee house had ita beainning when a group of second year students, including Lee Crawfort, Jon Lundell, Sunny Chandler and Susan Borokowski, approached college religious coanselor Rev. Horace N. Cooper with the idea. After obtaining the cooperation of New College President Dr. John Elmendorf, Rev. Cooper vent out into Sarasota to raise funds for the project. He succeeded in obtaining gifts from the Pine Shores Presbyterian Church, the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, the United Church of Christ and several private donora. 110re

Cooper ezpla:ined the purpose of the coffee house as providing "a background for students to introduce into the college co unity interesting aud talented people from the community." Outside enterta ent will probably take place on Friday and Saturday nights, according to Rev. Cooper. Musieal, literary, visual and social pro ra.s y be scheduled. "The emphasie will be on a rapport and dialogue between the perfomers and students," be aaid. On other nights, records and tapes will provid entertainment when students don't provide it on their own. Plays and movies may also b pres nted, according to ev. Cooper. CoffeeJ soft drinks and light refresh ent will b available at the coff e house. A s 11 admission fee will probably be r.harged at first to rovide for maintenance. Non-New College students ill be ad itted by 1ntat1on only at presant, ccording to Rev. Cooper, but this is only because of lack of s aee in the building -30-
