NEW COLLEGE / NEWS RELEASE NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR INFORMATION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Parents of New College students have been invited to campus next weekend (March 17-19) for a three-day of activities, an opportunity to tour the college, time to talk to faculty and staff, and to see their children. A number of activities have been planned for the visiting parents be-ginning with a panel discussion Friday evening and ending with a softball game be-tween co-ed students and wives of the faculty and staff. Parents of students of all three classes have been extended invitations to attend the weekend, the first planned by the college. A highlight of the weekend will be a formal meeting of the parents to organize officially as a group. Sen. Philip Hart of Michigan, national chairman of the parents group, will preside at the meeting. President John Elmendorf will help the weekend get under way when he moderates a panel discussion among six students on the subject of the "Contemporary College Student,11 Friday at 7 p.m. in College Hall. Taking part in the discussion will be students Beth Crosby and Don Aronoff of the Class of 1969, David Allen and Cheryl White of the Class of 1968, and Paul Hansma and Carol Worby of the Class of 1967. The general parents meeting will be held at mid-morning Saturday with Sen. Hart presiding, following a coffee hour which will offer opportunities for parents to meet informally with various members of the faculty. Trustee Chairman Dallas Dort will welcome the parents and Student Executive Committee Chairman Tom Jarrell also will extend greetings. -more-

NEW PARENTS WEEKEND Page 2 Special appointments with faculty, a sailing regatta on the waterfront, a student art exhibit in the Fine Arts Institute building, and an open house in all major buildings will be run simultaneously in the afternoon. At a banquet to be held in College Hall in the evening, students under the direction of George Wargo will present a special musical review and Choral Director Jerome Meachen will lead the New College Choral Group in a program of songs. Sunday morning is reserved for church services and in the afternoon the weekend concludes with the softball game and swimming in the New College pool. -30-
