NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR INFORMATION FOR RELEASE AFTER 10:30 a.m., l.Jednesday, February 22, 1967 Trustees of New College today elected two new members to their numbers and also named two new Honorary Fellmvs. Elected as trustees were David Cohen, Sarasota businessman, musician, and city commissioner, and Harlm.;r J. Heneman, nationally kno\vn manasement con-sultant. Named as Honorary FelloHs Here Alfred H. Barr Jr., the founding director of the Huseum of Hodern Art and a former trustee of the college, and George F. Baughman, founding President of the college. Members of the Board of Trustees met today briefly before the inaugura-tion of President John Elmendorf to take the action resulting in the naming of the four men. Cohen, president of Smith Specialty Co. in Sarasota, nm.,r is serving his third term as a commissioner of the City of Sarasota. He was twice elected by his fellow commissioners to be Hayer of the city and now is in his third term as Vice-Mayor. Cohen is business manager, assistant conductor, and concert-master of the Florida l.Jest Coast Symphony Orchestra and active in all of the orchestra's musical programs. He also served as a key leader in the initial fund raising campaign for New College in 1962. -more-

COLLEGE Page 2 Heneman, a general partner in the Ne,., York firm of Cresap, McCormick and Paget, is engaged primarily in providine management counsel to educational. health. and cultural organizations as well as to businesses. Heneman is a former political science professor, and for a number of years served the United States Government in a number of important positions. He has Hritten several books on political subjects, on management practices, and on financing higher education. An internationally known art historian, Barr Has educated at Princeton and Harvard. earning his doctorate at the latter university. He was on the faculty at Vassar, Harvard, Princeton and Hellesley before becoming associated with the Huseum of Modern Art at its founding in 1929. He has produced 98 shat-Js at the Huseum during his many years there. He '"as named a trustee of New College in 1962 and served for one term. Baughman, a former vice president of the University of Florida and New York University, one of the original trustees of Net..r College and served as its president from 1961 to 1965. He is presently owner of a Sarasota attraction and is an educational consultant. Recently he was commissioned a rear admiral in the U. s. Naval Reserve Supply Corps. Election of Cohen and Heneman brings the membership of the Board of Trustees to 35 and election of Barr and Baughman brings the Honorary Fellows number to seven. -30-
