New York Times, Newark Star Ledger, Newark Evening News, Harvard Univ. Alumni Mag., Assoc. Press, United Press (Tampa) 1 -74 -12/19/67 Ref.: Furman c. Arthur SARASOTA--Hilton D. Cole of Morristown, a former execu-tive of two major American publishing firms, has been elected a trustee of New College. Cole is a lalJYer \vho served, at different times, as board chair-man of the HacHillan Co. and of Crolvell-Collier Publishing Co. During the past year he has been chairman of the New College Parents Association. Cole's election came at the semi-annual meeting of the trustees of New College, a private institution l-lhich last summer graduated its first students. This charter class received national attention by the proportion of its members who successfully competed for and won national foundation fellowships for graduate study. Cole is a of Harvard University, earned a master's degree at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and then took his degree in law at Fordham University. As an attorney, he practiced lvith a New York firm for several years, was associated as a counsel lolith the Port of NelJ York Authority and in 1936 joined the Union Bae-Camp Paper Corp., becoming a director and vice president in charge of future planning. more

NEH COLLEGE Page 2 In addition to the chairmanships of the two publishing companies, Cole has been a director of the International Development Service, Inc., and of Standard Packaging Corp. He is a trustee of the American University in Cairo, of the New School for Social Research and of the Morristown Memorial Hospital. One of his two children, Patricia, is a second year student at New College. 30 -
