FOR RELEASE: SUNDAY, MARCH 27, 1966 NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR -INFORMATION A new guide for both the makers and users of educational and psychological tests and manuals has just been issued by a national committee working under the co;;.chairmanship of a New College faculty member. "Standards for Educational and Psychological Tests and Manuals," is pub-lished by the American Psychological Association, and Dr. John W. French, College Examiner and Professor of Psychology at New College, is co-chairman of the Committee on Test Standards of the APA. Publication of the booklet climaxed several years' work by the committee in revising and updating material. Copies are mostly to be used by test publishers, by colleges and universities, public schools, the Civil Service and other govern-ment agencies. Dr. French said that users of tests generally check them against the standards as specified in the book. The standards are intended to guide test development and reporting. One audience for the standards is the authors and publishers who are respon-sible for test development. The standards should also aid the thinking of test users as well as of advanced students either in psychology or education. It should also be useful to directors of research, school psychologists, coun-selors, supervisors, and administrators who select tests to use for various school purposes. -more-
