FOR RELEASE: SUNDAY, MARCH 7, 1965 NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C. ARTHUR INFORMATION PHILOSOPHY PROFESSOR SPEAKS AT ASOLO THEATRE A special lecture on aesthetics will be given by a Carleton College philosophy professor Monday, March 15 at 8 p.m. at the Ringling Museum's A solo Theatre. New College and the Rin';!'ling Museum are sponsoring the appearance here of Dr. Martin S. Eshleman, chairman of the Department of Philosophy at the Northfield, Minn. college. The lecture, which is open to the public, will be on the subject, "The Aesthetic Object." Dr. Eshleman \'lill be here visiting New College and meeting with the student body. Par t of the firs t term work of all students in the Humanities Program at the college was in the study of aesthetics. Tickets for the leccure may be obtained by calling or writing the Humanities Division of New College. Dr. Eshleman, \"ho is currently working on a book in the field of aesthetics, has been with Carleton since 1944, when he firs t joined the faculty as an instructor. He earned his bachelor of arts degree at Haverford College in 1925, studied for a year at the University of Berlin, earned his doctorate at Yale Universit.y and taught in secondary schools for a number of years before joining i:.he philosophy faculty at Yale. Dr. Eshleman is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a member and former president of the Minnesota Philosophical Society, the American Philoso phical Assn., American Society of Aesthetics, Metaphysics Sociei:.y of America.
