NEW COLLEGE NEWS RELEASE FOR RELEASE JULY 28, 1965 NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR INFORMATION The New College Class of 1968, entering this September, will include Merit Scholarship Theodore Herr ill Shoemaker, of Hinnetka, Ill. The son of Hr. and Hrs. Robert Louis Shoemaker, he graduated with honors from the New Trier To\mship High School in Hinnetka. Shoemaker excels in several fields of interest, music and drama being outstanding. He composed, directed, and acted in a musical adaptation of Nelville 's .tOBY DICK and held the French horn first chair in the local orchestra. He also co-wrote, produeed, and directed an original hour-long musical parody entitled "oedipus and the Giant Gladiators" last summer, acted in "Finnian's Rainbow", produced "Haiting for Godot", and played the French horn and piano. Sportswise, Shoemaker worked for four years under Joe Gialombardo, AAU all-round and tumbling champion. As a result of this tutelage Shoemaker taught beginners in trampoline and set up his own trampoline for continued activity in this sport. He was active in English and served on the Yearbook as photographer. He is presently applying for a patent on a 35 mm slide device. Shoemaker participated actively in the Church Youth Group and to1as tUnnetka Chairman of the Student Committee to Implement Learning. Another member of the College class of 1968 coming from is Hiss Molly Lynde to7ho a member of the American Field Service Exchange Student Program as well as a semi-finalist in the Scholarship Program. -30-
