FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C ARTHUR INFORMATION December 29, 1965 Seven contracting firms submitted bids on projected new construction for the New College East Campus Wednesday. Apparent low base bid for a new multi-purpose center and a classroom build-ing was from the Tampa firm of Settecasi and Chillura, with a figure of $1,149,614. College officials indicated that it would be some time before a decision would be made on the bids. There were four alternates to be considered for each bid and the entire bidding had to be reviewed by the Housing and Home Fin-nance Agency office in Atlanta, Ga. The bids were divided into two phases. One was for a building which will contain the main student dining room, a lounge, snack bar, service areas, pri-vate dining and meeting rooms, and reception offices. The second phase of the new construction would include classrooms, language laboratory, and a teaching auditorium. All of the new construction for which bids were accepted was designed by I. M. Pei and Associates of New York, designers of the three residence halls completed on the East Campus in the spring. -more-
