NEW COLLEGE, SARASOTA, FLORIDA FURMAN C. ARTHUR JNFORMATION FOR RELEASE FRIDAY {August 21, 1964) Dr. George Curry, Professor of History at New College, has been elected to the Anglo-American Historical Committee of the AngloAmerican Conference of Historians. A native Briton, Dr. Curry recently returned from a visit there which included a trip to New College at Oxford and time spent with historian Dr. Arnold Toynbee who will be a visiting professor on the New College campus here during the first year. Dr. Curry said that the new election means that he will be serving with a group which will make arrangements for an annual conference bringing together some three hundred American and Commonwealth historians each year in London both to read papers and to discuss recent trends in historical scholarship throughout the English speaking world. The committee is organized through the Institute of Historical Research at London University. Dr. Curry received his bachelor of arts degree from London Uni-versity, going on to study at the Sorbonne and then earning his master of arts degree at the University of South Carolina and his doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Chicago. Dr. Curry came to New College from a position as Professor of History at the University of South Carolina. ###
