Abstract:
The following document examines the work of Werner Herzog, Klaus Kinski and Bruno S. The introduction focuses on Werner Herzog’s unique film theory and how he applies it in relation to films he has shot starring Klaus Kinski and Bruno S. The next two chapters discuss the films Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972), Fitzcarraldo (1982), The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974), and Stroszek (1977). The conclusion touches on the similarities of the films shot with Klaus Kinski and those shot with Bruno S and the cultural gap left after the Second World War that Werner Herzog attempted to bridge. This study was conducted with a thorough analysis of the films mentioned, unpublished archival material from the Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin, Germany, as well as secondary resources.
